Richard is the co-founder and partner of the M/s Gurbani & Co, a boutique law firm offering commercial legal advice and litigation services. Richard graduated from the University of London in 1979 and 1981 with degrees of Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Master of Laws respectively. Shortly after that, Richard worked in barrister’s chambers and a firm of London Solicitors from 1980 to 1982 and was called as a Barrister-at-Laws of Lincoln’s Inn, England in 1980. Richard was admitted as Advocate & Solicitor, Singapore in 1982.

Regularly ranked by shipping and marine insurance publications, Richard is recommended for the strength of his marine and marine insurance work. Richard’s shipping practice covers both wet and dry work and trade disputes. In a career spanning some 32 years, Richard has represented insurers, shipowners, cargo interests, ship repairers, ship brokers and salvors. Richard is also an accredited arbitrator on the panel of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration. Out of 32 years, Richard has spent the last 25 years of his practice in Gurbani & Co, a firm which he co-founded in 1989.
